When planting flower seeds, it is always best to make sure that you are religiously following the instructions that are included on the seed packet’s back part. Below is the information on how to plant flower seeds to enhance the beauty of your garden.

Preparing the Container

The first thing that you need to do is to make the container that you are going to use. There are a lot of containers today, and all you have to do is to choose the best container that suits your needs. Some containers are known as germinating flats, and they are usually cheap and created specifically for the seeds to be able to germinate.

You may also use egg cartons or drinking cups that are made out of plastic if you want a cheaper option. If you think that using a flower pot is more essential, then, by all means, choose a flower pot for the flower seeds that you are planning to plant.

Size of the Container

The next thing that you need to do is to choose a container that can provide you with the space that you need for your seeds. Flower seeds need to have enough room for them to be able to develop freely. Typically, the best containers to choose are the ones that are five or more inches in depth, as this will allow the roots to grow.

Sterilizing the Container

If you are using a recycled container that is made out of plastic then soaking them in a solution of water and bleach will help them to be rinsed thoroughly. But if you are using a new container then you no longer have to worry about sterilization since it is no longer needed.

Add Some Drainage

Most of the germination trays and plastic pots have ready holes at the bottom for it to thoroughly drain the water from the soil of the plants. Now if you are using a different container, an egg carton, and a plastic cup, then creating holes is essential. You can start punching tiny holes at the bottom before filling them with the soil. Just make sure that the holes are small for the soil to avoid from coming out.

Planting Flower Seeds

Typically, need to do is to plant your seeds four to eight weeks before you plan on putting them outdoors. You need to plant them at least four weeks before the last expected frost. The reason behind this is because it will provide your soil with ample of time to develop before you make any transfer. This will also help them to be stronger to withstand insects, pests, and winds.

Choosing Your Soil

If you are going to use a germination tray, it would be best to choose peat moss pellets. Now if you are using a bigger size container, then choosing a good soil is necessary. There is pre-packed soil in the market today which you can purchase, just make sure that it says that it has a sterile mix that is high in quality.

Filling the Container

Once you already have your soil, fill the container with it. Avoid packing the soil down since it is better just to let them loose. Once you’re done, you can start moistening it by adding water until it reaches a spongy consistency. But make sure not to saturate the container's soil thoroughly.

Read the Seed Packet

Now before planting them, it would be best to read the instructions first before doing anything else. There are flower seeds that need to be covered by at least an inch of soil, while there are some seeds that only require a sprinkled of soil on the surface. Avoid packing the ground at the op of the seeds, since this can only smother them and make it hard for their sprouts to come out of the seeds.

Planting and Watering the Seeds

It would be best to drop two or three flowers seeds in a container and make sure to space them for at least one-fourth inch apart. This will prevent the seeds from interfering when they start growing. When watering the seeds, it would be better just to sprinkle them with a little water just to moisten them out. Avoid over watering since it can instantly drown them

Covering the Container

A plastic wrap or a plastic cover will do to help you in covering the container. This is essential to ensure that the seeds won't dry out. A clear cover is necessary to make sure that the seeds are getting the needed sunlight for them to grow.

Relocating the Seeds

Now once the seeds start showing two sets of leaves, then it is a clear sign that you need to transfer them to a better location where a better amount of sunlight can be obtained. You can place them outdoors and start watering them the same way that you water them when you first planted the seeds. Always make sure to water them gently to avoid damages.

Fertilizer

Once the seeds start to develop more leaves, then using a fertilizer will help. Just make sure that the fertilizer is light and is advisable to use for shoots that are young.

These are all the information that you need on how to plant flower seeds and how you can ensure that they will grow successfully and beautifully.
